Opt In List Building Techniques Pay Off

Once you have succeeded in your traffic generating
strategies and visitors are flocking to your web site, you
are going to want to give them something of value as a
reward for stopping by.  It’s a nice way to say “Thanks
for coming”, like a warm cup of coffee when someone
comes to visit. Providing the visitor with valuable
information will turn an unqualified lead into a loyal
visitor who will want to return to your site for more helpful
hints.  

If you have gone to all of the work to build traffic to your
site, you will want to encourage the visitor to stay and
poke around. Informative articles are one reward, but
more than anything – people love free stuff.  If done
properly, you can convert the visitor to a potential
prospect by asking them to register their name and
email address (to “Opt-in” to your mailing list) in
exchange for additional useful information.

You may want to expand one of your informative articles
into a FREE Report or even a downloadable E-book
which users can access as soon as they have registered
on your site.  Usually, you will want to have an
Autoresponder program (like aweber or others) which
will send the user an email as soon as they register. You
should ask them to verify their interest by clicking on the
link within the email you have sent before they can
download the book or report. Once they do, they will be
sent to a secure part of your site where they can
download for free.  The advantage with this technique is
that you will have a “white listed” lead instead of an
unqualified spam contact.  

Spam is poison for any business. If you want to avoid
ruining your business and your reputation, avoid spam
(unsolicited email campaigns) at all costs.  Most email
clients today have very robust spam filters that will block
your salesletter promotions and other email marketing
campaigns unless the customer has specifically opted in
to your list.  Opt in lists are like a handshake on a new
business relationship.  It means the visitor would like to
continue to do business with you again in the future.
